The November and December edition of Ch@t, our parish magazine, is full of stories, reflections and news from across Thornbury, Oldbury and Shepperdine as we look towards Advent and Christmas.

Revd Joy reflects on the joy of music in worship, the importance of remembering loved ones and the hope that Advent brings. There are also thought-provoking reflections on faith, the Church of England and how God works through our human imperfections.

We celebrate the life of our church communities, from the fun and fellowship of Hopscotch for little ones and families to the Harvest celebrations, shared meals and growing friendships at St Paul’s and St Arilda’s. The Mothers’ Union marks its 150th anniversary, looking back on its history of supporting families and sharing details of its Christmas activities.

Our Eco Church pages offer fascinating insights into the natural world, including the glow worms of St Arilda’s churchyard, the effects of climate change and the inspiring work of community groups caring for local green spaces. There is exciting news, too, about the remarkable wildlife discovered at St Mary’s churchyard.

As Christmas approaches, we invite you to join our churches for a rich programme of services, including the Advent Service of Light, Christingle, carol services and Midnight Mass. You can also support the Julian Trust’s Christmas appeal by donating essential items for gifts for people experiencing homelessness, or helping to pack the gift bags.
