Christingle

Service welcome to all. Children will be offered a Christingle orange, lit during the service for a song by candlelight. Christmas carols and children's hymns for the season will be sung. Simple prayers and a jolly service to mark the season.

Traditional candle lit service of Lessons and Carols (Not normally all 9!) some from the bible and some poems interspersed with carols and music by our church choir. Service finishes with with mince pies and mulled wine.

Crib Service

Family friendly service. Children are welcomed to join in and act out the Christmas story. Rehearsal in the morning (11am) for those that can make it, where parts and costumes are handed out. Very welcome to join in even if it is the afternoon only. There is room in the stable for unicorns and dinosaurs too! Traditional carols and fun for all the family.

Rehearsal is at 11am!

Civic Service with representation from lots of our local services including RBL, local Scouts and Guides, Cadet services and others. Minute of silence timed as closely as possible with the National Silence at 11:00am.

This annual service offers a chance to remember those we have loved and lost and is open to all who are grieving, no matter how recent or long ago the bereavement.  Prayers, hymns and space to reflect, followed by refreshments.

Heritage Open Day

Heritage Open Day is happening at St Mary's Church, Castle Street, Thornbury on Saturday 13th September 2025.

This is the only day during the year St Mary's Church opens the tower to the public. Come and climb the 113 steps to brave the heights and surround yourself in the beautiful views from the top. Please call the office to book a place on a tour. 01454 281900.

(Tours run 13:30 - 16:30. Only ages 8 and above can visit the tower. Sorry there is no disabled access to the tower).
